The results of the National Institutes of Science and Technology (INCT/CNPq) Program were released today. Among the approved projects is “Regions: Social History of Inequalities in Brazil,” led by João Fragoso, a member of the PPGHIS. Other faculty members from the program also participate in the initiative: Antonio Carlos Jucá, Isabele Mello, Lise Sedrez, Gabriel Castanho, Hanna Sonkajarvi, and Roberto Guedes. In total, over 206 researchers, 175 Brazilians, and 31 foreigners will contribute to the project. It will involve more than a dozen higher education and secondary institutions, as well as institutes such as IPEA and IBGE. The Institute of History at UFRJ will host the activities.
The project proposes a historical analysis of current social inequality, aiming to bring the population an understanding of its history and, thus, promote equality and consolidate democracy. The proposal’s formulators intend to understand the country’s complex social inequality by studying the Major Regions (IBGE), their interactions and specificities.
PPGHIS congratulates everyone involved in this new, ambitious endeavor that will certainly yield excellent results in the coming years.
